How to choose the right font for your wedding invitation

How to choose the right font for your wedding invitation

Fonts on wedding invitations are often predetermined by ready-made designs. However, if you want to fully customize the design of both your invitations and wedding stationery, there are a few important things to keep in mind. When choosing fonts, we cannot simply pick many different and mismatched typefaces. We also shouldn't choose just one style for everything, as it may become difficult to read. Companies that professionally prepare invitations have access to many different, beautiful, and original fonts that can be selected for specific parts of the invitation. An invitation is usually divided into:

Header

The first element that guests will see. It is most often placed on the cover of the invitation as the main headline that grabs attention. Because of this, we can choose a bold font for the header, full of flourishes and various ornaments. The word "INVITATION" should also be relatively large and clearly visible so that it doesn't get lost among the other elements placed on the front page.

Secondary text

Secondary text is simply the poem or personal words addressed to the guests, most commonly placed on the invitations. It is often longer, so we should not use overly decorative font styles for it. The best solution is to choose legible and slightly embellished fonts, such as minimalist serif typefaces or traditional, almost typewriter-like sans-serif letters. This ensures the text doesn't dominate, blend together, or become unreadable.

Main text - who is inviting

The main text, which is practically the most important part after the header, is the section where the names of the Bride and Groom will appear. It is usually done in a much larger size than the rest of the text. For this part, we can afford a bit of flair. Beautiful fonts with numerous ornaments and calligraphic elements can easily be used here. The names of the Bride and Groom should definitely be visible and eye-catching; they are among the most important pieces of information included on a page containing various texts.

Another important element is the section where we invite the guests. The invitation text with the names of the guests should be more visible than the secondary text, but it must not overshadow the names of the Bride and Groom. The best solution is to choose a delicately decorative font that allows for an elegant effect.

Information regarding place, date, and time

This information is crucial. We cannot make a mistake when entering the date, the venue of the wedding and reception, or the time. For this reason, this text should be very legible. This is information that the guest must remember, so we cannot use a decorative font that is hard to read. A frequently used solution is to use a font very similar to the one used in the secondary text.

Thank you notes

The last element for which you need to choose a typeface is the thank you note, or rather, the words expressing anticipation for the guests' arrival. This text can be treated less formally, allowing us to use a decorative font or even a "handwriting" style font. Remember that when designing invitations, moderation and finding a balance between form and content are key.

In the case of place cards or thank you gifts for guests, choosing a font is much easier and does not present as many difficulties as with invitations.
